5 Weird Things People Write In a Notebook

5 Weird Things People Write In a Notebook

(That Would Never Survive in a Notes App)

Okay, we love technology. Your phone can set reminders, auto-save your ideas, and even predict what you will say next (sometimes creepily well). But writing things down? Hits different.

Typing is fast, but writing makes things stick. It is personal. It is messy. Your notebook won’t autocorrect your brilliant thoughts into bland, robotic phrases. It does not distract you with a notification about a buy-one-get-one-free pizza while you are brainstorming.

Notebooks aren’t just for organised people; they are where genius meets chaos. And honestly? That randomness is what makes them awesome.

We have all written something weird in a notebook. One moment you're jotting down something important, and the next? You’ve scribbled:

 “Do penguins have knees?”

This would never make it into your phone’s Notes app, and if it did, you would delete it in embarrassment before the day was over.

But a notebook? It keeps everything real and stares back at you without judgement.

Let’s compare: Would you type these into your phone’s notes app? Probably not. Would you write them in a notebook? Absolutely.

1. The Grocery List That Turns Existential 🛒

Phone Notes App: A neat practical list. Everything is in order and efficient.

✅ Milk

✅ Eggs

✅ Bread

Notebook: Chaos. Questions. Existential spirals.

✔️ Milk
✔️ Bread
✔️ Why do we call it a pair of pants when it’s just one?
✔️ Wait… is cereal technically soup?
✔️ Chocolate  (because of previous thought)

A notes app keeps things practical. A notebook keeps things interesting.

2. The ‘Million Dollar” Shower Idea

You are in the shower when pure genius strikes. You grab your phone and type it in the moment you step out.

Phone Notes App: 'An alarm clock that insults you awake'

The tone is… calm. Too calm. It does not capture your euphoria and autocorrect destroys everything.

You read it once and delete it in shame.

Notebook

You scribble the idea excitedly, with typos because who cares if it’s logical?

ALARM CLOCK THAT INSULTS YOU AWAKE (ALL CAPS MEAN SERIOUS BUSINESS!)

  • “WAKE UP, YOU OVERCOOKED PIECE OF TOAST.” Gordon Ramsay's voice would be perfect for this. Now that would get you out of bed.
  • “YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE AND YOU’VE BEEN LOSING FOR YEARS.”
  • “CONGRATS, YOU’RE LATE AGAIN. A NEW RECORD!!!”

Doodles of an angry alarm clock yelling. Five exclamation marks. Maybe even a side note: Must find someone to build this??

Even if it never gets made, writing it down feels like a win ❤️

A notes app makes you doubt yourself. A notebook lets you run with your madness.

3. The To-Do List That Spirals Into Madness

Phone Notes App: A productive, distraction-free list.

Finish work

✅ Call mom

✅ Buy toothpaste

Notebook

✔️ Finish work
✔️ Call mom
✔️ Do nose itches mean something spiritually?
✔️ Buy toothpaste
✔️ What is the ideal number of pillows???
✔️ Doodle a cat wearing sunglasses

A digital notes app keeps you focused. A notebook keeps you entertained and focused.

4. The ‘Fix Your Entire Life’ Plan That Will 100% Be Forgotten

Phone Notes App

 "Get my life together."

Notebook

  • Wake up at 5 AM
  • Meditate (???)
  • Learn a new language in a week
  • Drink more water (but also more coffee)
  • Actually start journaling this time (for real)

Will you follow through? Doubtful. But will it feel inspiring while you’re writing it? Absolutely.

A notes app reminds you of what you didn’t do. A notebook lets you dream a little longer.

5. A Random Thought That Could Have Been a TED Talk

Phone Notes App:

You hesitate. Will you take this seriously in the future? Probably not. You close the app. You thought it was gone forever.

Notebook

  • If you clean a vacuum… are you the vacuum now?
  • Who decided “silent” and “listen” should have the same letters? Was that on purpose??
  • Why do we press harder on the remote when the batteries are dying? Like… do we think it’s discipline?

A notes app makes you question your sanity. A notebook lets you embrace it.

Final Thought: The Chaos Is the Point

A digital notes app is neat, structured, and functional. But a notebook? It’s where the weird, unfiltered version of your brain gets to exist.

That’s way more fun.

This blog was meant to be handwritten and sent by a pigeon. Technology ruined my dream 😔
